Good afternoon - today we will make balls of thread... such openwork balls-webs that can be hung as Christmas decorations… or use as LAMP and LAMPSHAD... or one of these thread balls- cocoons can be made New Year's GARLAND... And such balls of thread can also be even candlesticks or other home decor elements.

You have seen such balls many times... But in THIS ARTICLE... I will show you COMPLEX versions of this technique.

So let's start in order...

  1. First I'll show you WHAT'S POSSIBLE MAKE from such balls
  2. And then I'll tell you HOW TO DO IT such a ball of thread with your own hands.

WHAT can be done

using BALLS FROM THREAD.

IDEA 1 – New Year's tree.

You can decorate with these balls New Year's table… If find the frame. THE FRAMEWORK WILL BE splayed tree branch... we wrap such a branch with an LED Christmas tree garland and hang balls of thread on the branches.

IDEA 2 – Table compositions with fresh flowers.

You can wear these openwork spider web balls... TO THE TOP arrange small vases. By the way, the vases can be the same small ones transparent (or white) balls(similar, not condoms) into which we take a little water... drop the flower heads into them... and we tie the neck of such a ball to the top of the ball... This is what we see in the photo below.

The result is a composition of balls of thread with flowers, which can be used to decorate a wedding... or a New Year's table

Or you can put these balls in a slide in a flat vase... Pour water onto the bottom of the vase... and push the stems of tall, not heavy flowers (for example, gerberas) THROUGH THE BALLS - the balls will keep the flower stems in balance.

And it’s important - if you are planning such a composition with water... then it’s better to roll up such a ball of thread NOT from simple threads... but from metal ones- that is, made of wire. Because a regular ball of thread will get wet and lose its shape.

IDEA 3 – threads of balloons in HANGING COMPOSITIONS for holiday decoration.

You can attach such balls to a CHANDELIER - just over the dinner ball... and lower them beautifully so that the balls are at different heights. And it is better to use balls not of the same color - but of two shades that combine in composition. Red + white, Green + blue, Gold + brown, etc.

Balls of the same thread color also look beautiful... but DIFFERENT SIZES... and DIFFERENT DENSITY thread openwork.

That is, we will need to inflate balls of different sizes... and when we wind our thread, soaked in glue, onto one ball bigger and THICKER... and on the other ball less and less often(so that the holes remain).

Such a white composition is perfect for decorating a wedding - if the wedding is planned in the yard, that is, in nature, then such voluminous balls can be mounted on a tree branch.

IDEA 4 – BALLS made of threads as table and ceiling lamps.

You can make cocoon balls from such thread balls table lamps if you carefully insert a chain of incandescent light bulbs into the balls...

You can make one lamp - with one light bulb socket. In the photo below we see an example of such a lamp made from a spider web ball. Light socket stand made from regular ICE CREAM STICKS.

You can take this chuck holder idea... or you can just buy a ready-made stand with lamp socket at a craft store... or buy a cheap lamp with a shade and remove the shade from it... and somehow decorate the stand so that it doesn’t look like cheap China (for example, cover it with napkins using the decoupage technique... or cover it with a mosaic of glass pebbles).

Balls made of threads - can be used as hanging lamps for ceiling lamp. In the interior, both one lampshade and a whole series of multi-colored lamps look beautiful (reminiscent of a Japanese-style interior).

This is how beautiful a lampshade like this can look in the interior of a room. Bedrooms...children's...hallway.

Light bulb sockets are sold together with a cord... Or you can buy everything separately and install it with the hands of a familiar electrician.

IDEA 5 – New Year’s garland made from an LED chain and balls of thread.

You can also buy the most a regular garland with small LEDs– and make thread balls of different sizes and colors. We insert LEDs into such balls - so that they stick and do not jump out of the balls, it is better to secure them with tape or thread.

Such a garland can consist of airy cocoon balls made of thin wire (as in the photo below). The shine of the wire will additionally reflect and refract the light from the LEDs.

Or the garland can be made of THREAD balls - then the light of such a garland will be calm and softly diffused (as in the photo below).

These are the beautiful sparkling highlights we get on the wall from such a garland.

Can be done ONE LARGE round nito cocoon ball to - and stretch a garland into it in a chaotic manner (so that the light bulbs are evenly distributed over the entire surface of the ball) - we get a beautiful ball-lamp sparkling with several lights at once (left photo below)

Or you can do decorative GARLAND SCREEN made of thread balls and shiny glass pendants... (as in the right photo below). The result is a very beautiful and delicate screen-curtain - thanks to the fact that the openwork and airy balls of the screen do not look bulky and the glass beads dilute and decorate the flowing surface of the curtain.

IDEA 6 – SNOWMAN made of balls wrapped in thread.

You can also make a craft with your children to decorate the New Year - a snowman made from balls of thread. You need to make three balls of different sizes (plus you can also make small balls on your hands).

IDEA 6 – CANDLESTICKS made of balls wrapped in thread.

Candle balls needed make it bigger– so that the candle flame is away from the walls and top of the ball. And the ball itself must have LARGE HOLES (i.e. NOT TIGHT winding) - through these holes the heat of the candle will immediately evaporate... and the threads will not heat up.

Candlesticks from threads can be made hanging (pictured below)…

And there may be floor (or table)) – like here in the photo below. The bottom example illustrates what happens if the ball is made larger. Then you can make the cells between the threads smaller. And then, in order to put a candle there, you will need to cut through the web ball with scissors hole on the side... or the hole may be at the bottom(that is, we cut out the bottom... put a candle on the floor and cover it with a ball on top of the part where the hole is in the bottom).

By the way, instead of a candle, you can use a solar-powered garden lantern.

IDEA 7 – balls made of thread for the New Year tree.

These balls are also good to hang on a Christmas tree. Christmas balls It’s better to make it from small balloons. (that is, you need to buy small balls (garlands are made from these for weddings) such balls are sold in departments of hypermarkets, where there is a shelf with decorations for children's day Birth.

Also the thread itself immediately after wrapping the ball - while it is still wet and sticky from glue - sprinkle with glitter. You can get glitter for free if you trim the fluffy Christmas tree garland finely.

HOW TO MAKE BALLS FROM THREAD –

three convenient ways.

ESSENCE OF THE WORK to create a ball of thread it looks like this... Small balloon, wrap it with thread soaked in glue... And when the glue cocoon of thread dries, we burst the ball, take out its fragments from the cocoon, and get an openwork ball of thread.

Adhesive solutions can be different:

  • You can dilute WALLPAPER glue (paste based on starch)... or dilute and cook the starch with water yourself.

  • You can use SILICATE glue (Soviet transparent for paper)

  • You can - use PVA GLUE - in pure form... or diluted - then add water and sugar to it.

And the ways in which the work is done can be different:

METHOD ONE – through the bottle.

For convenience, it is recommended to thread the thread into a needle... use the needle to pierce the bottle with silicone glue through (enlarge it, pick out the hole so that the thread passes freely through the bottle)... This way we will get a “mini-device” for wetting the thread with glue without dirtying the table.

METHOD TWO– put a skein of thread in a bowl of glue – as in the left photo below... if you don’t want to spoil the whole ball (because it’s too big) – then you can pass the thread through the bowl of glue by hand (as in the right photo)

WITH WHAT TENSION TO WIND THE THREAD.

The thread on the ball should not be wound very tightly - so that the ball does not get pulled together and is not compressed by the thread. Otherwise we will get a crooked product.

HOW TO REMOVE THE BALL CORRECTLY.

It is best to dry the glue ball for 2-3 days. So that it hardens properly. If you start removing the ball before it has completely dried, you may end up with a wrinkled product.

Before bursting the ball, you need to make sure that it easily moves away from the walls of the thread cocoon. To do this, you can use the blunt end of a pencil to gently press on the ball THROUGH THE HOLES BETWEEN THE THREADS - in different sides of the ball - push the ball with a pencil so that it comes unstuck from the walls of the cocoon everywhere.

After this, we burst the ball and pull out the burst rag by the tail.

AND ALSO... you can add a cocoon-web LACE.

But this technique can be supplemented with elements knitted applique from the same threads... For example, you can make a piece of a knitted pattern in advance (as in the photo below) ...

To do this, first crochet pattern element(this can be a pattern for any crocheted napkin)… a small element, only the first few rows of the pattern… Glue this lace knitted circle to the surface of the ball. Drying...

Then we shave the end of the glue thread - and thread it into a NEEDLE. And with such a thread and needle we begin to carefully (so as not to pierce) wrap the ball, and pick up (as we wind) the edges of the lace applique... and we get a cocoon into which the lace detail is sewn, crocheted. Like in the photo below.

Or you can do it differently - IT’S EVEN EASIER TO DO

  • wrap the ball with threads... dry...
  • WITHOUT removing the balloon with scissors, cut a round hole (the size of your knitted applique) and apply glue to this head area on the balloon...
  • soak the knitted applique with glue and attach it to the ball (so that its edges touch the edges of the web). When all this is dry you can remove the ball.

Openwork BALLS made of wire.

Using the same principle, ball-windings are made from wire. You just need to do it carefully so that the end of the wire does not cut into the ball and so that the wire itself does not cut the ball..

Here are some ideas on how to make a ball of thread yourself. As you can see, everything is quick and simple. Even a child can easily master the whole process.

Happy crafting!

Happy New Year to the author of this article, Olga Klishevskaya.

This year, some of the most popular crafts were those that used the thread cocoon method, that is, crafts made from threads and glue.

So Tatyana Tkachenko decided to return to this method once again. To consolidate this material, and at the same time see its unlimited possibilities and all the secrets of work and choice of material.

Crafts from threads and glue, tips and secrets

Although the simplest and most common crafts made from threads and glue are balls, you can make more than just them using this method. I invite you to admire the works that can be made using the thread cocoon method.

Admire this beauty, and only then we’ll move on to the master class, in which Tatyana will reveal absolutely all the secrets of making crafts from threads and glue with her own hands. Do you agree?

Some subtleties in making crafts from threads and glue

At the competition, as you probably noticed, there were balls made of threads, each of the participants made them in their own way. Of course, there were operations that could not be bypassed, but each of them had its own trick. This is what I wanted to talk to you about in this article.

So, what do we need to make balls from thread and glue:

1. Threads.

But there is a little trick here too.

The threads should be loose so that they can be easily “glued”, i.e. absorbed the glue.

This is a very important condition.

Dense, silky, tightly twisted threads are poorly saturated with glue.

So thread or yarn is an important factor for successful work and quality results.

2. Glue.

This is the second factor influencing the quality of work.

This glue is good, but if it is very thick, then it should be diluted with water in the proportion: 1 part water to 3 parts glue.

There are options when needlewomen replaced PVA glue with regular office glue and the result was no worse.

You can make another version of glue.
To do this you will need PVA glue, corn starch and water. Take a bowl, pour 1.5 cups of PVA glue into it, gradually add 1/2 cup of starch and 1/4 cup of water and stir.

The proportion of glue, starch and water may vary depending on the thickness of the PVA glue. The mixture should be quite liquid (liquid sour cream) so that the threads are well saturated with it.

3. Ball.

The basis of most crafts made from thread and glue is a ball. Therefore, they take an inflatable ball. But don't inflate it too big. Experienced needlewomen They recommend a ball diameter of no more than 15 cm, and for small New Year or Christmas tree balls you can take a fingertip and thus get a ball with a diameter of 6-8 cm.

We will also need: scissors, a Gypsy needle, Vaseline or cheap fat cream, bowl.

Master class “Crafts from threads and glue with your own hands”

Not everything is simple here either. Do you think that you can just take and wrap a ball with thread? No! There are several options for how to prepare threads for making thread cocoons. Let's look at all the options.

Option 1. Threads can be soaked in a bowl, especially woolen ones, and then wound around a ball.

Unfortunately, this method has many disadvantages. You will need to unwind the threads and carefully place them in a bowl. I assure you, no matter how carefully you put them in the dishes, there is a possibility that the threads will get tangled.

Cut the thread into short pieces? It is possible, but this also leads to inconvenience.

Let's consider another method. I just want to clarify that threads are soaked only in PVA or PVA glue diluted with water.

Option 2. Pass the thread through the bottle. To do this, take a “Gypsy” needle, thread a thread through the eye and pierce a plastic bottle of glue with this needle. We do this close to the bottom. Glue can be either PVA or stationery. And we put the threads in a jar.

Option 3. Use a Kinder Surprise egg. To do this, use a hot “Gypsy” needle to make two holes in the egg, at the ends. Pour glue into the egg, close it and pull the thread through using the same needle. As it passes through the egg, the thread will be coated with glue. Any glue, either PVA or office glue.

After you have chosen one of the options for preparing the threads, we move on to the process of making thread cocoons:

Inflate the balloon to the required size (diameter);
lubricate the ball with Vaseline or oil or cream;
tie the thread to the base or glue it with tape;
we wind the threads so that there is a fairly “thick” layer.

The ball should keep its shape after drying;
dry the ball at least overnight, or better, as the needlewomen advise, for 1-2 days;
when the glue has thoroughly hardened, carefully pierce the ball with a needle;
carefully remove the ball, being careful not to damage the threads;
decorate the ball with sequins, rhinestones, sparkles, tinsel, etc.

I hope that I have described the main stages, but anyone who wants can add their experience to my article. How can you make a flower out of a ball of thread? I am sure that the photo below fully answers this question.

I think that by March 8 it is worth making a bouquet of tulips using the thread cocoon method. This craft made from thread and glue will look just great and will delight the person to whom you want to give such a bouquet.

From such simple materials as glue and thread, you can make a lot interesting crafts. Making them is quite simple, so even children will enjoy participating in this process.

Moreover, the crafts are inexpensive, because their production requires only threads, inexpensive PVA glue and colored paper.

On ball of glue and thread The following materials will be required:
  • PVA glue,
  • balloon,
  • "Iris" threads
  • scissors,
  • big needle.
  1. To make this original crafts you need PVA glue, an inflatable ball, threads No. 40-60, colored paper, ribbon, thick thread.
  2. The ball needs to be inflated to the size of a regular apple. Thread the tip of the thread into a needle and pierce through the bottle of PVA glue. As the tip hardens, the needle can be removed.
  3. The thread is carefully wound around the ball, and it is better to make turns in different directions.
  4. The resulting “cocoon” must be dried for 4-5 hours. It should turn out solid. The rubber base must be pierced and carefully pulled out.

For a cockerel you will need two balls - for the body and the head, which will need to be glued together.

All that remains is to decorate the craft using colored paper by making the bird’s beak, eyes, comb and breast.

You don't need a balloon to create this toy. The feather turns out to be very natural and looks beautiful both on its own and as a decoration on greeting cards.

  1. We begin the work by wrapping the wire with floss. All threads must be cut into pieces of equal length.
  2. One by one, they need to be tied on a wire so that the knots lie on the same line.
  3. The workpiece must be dipped in glue so that the floss is well saturated.
  4. Then the feather must be laid out and straightened on the surface and left until completely dry.
  5. Next, the edges are trimmed to make the feather smooth and beautiful.

The resulting craft can be glued to a base and made into an original postcard.

Toys and interesting and useful items for the home can be easily made from cocoons cut in half. So, it’s easy to make a candy bowl.

In order for it to stand stably on the table, you need to press it to the table with a round jar and turn it several times. This will allow the threads to be compacted at the bottom. In order to strengthen the bottom, it is worth cutting out a round base from paper and gluing it to the bottom from the inside and outside. You can decorate the candy bowl with ribbon, rhinestones, and sequins.

They also advised me to use liquid glass instead of PVA glue. It is also sold in a hardware store; it has the consistency of glue, and a chandelier made from this material will last forever. But I haven't tried this method yet.

How to wind threads?

And don’t forget to cover your work surface with oilcloth, because no matter how hard you try, there’s glue all around!

DIY ball of thread and glueGood day, dear needlewomen! It just so happened that I post on the site all my materials that I make with my own hands, even though sometimes they are not sewing, but simply handicrafts.

In fact, this process is not particularly difficult and the Internet is simply replete with information on how to do this. But.....it’s not always possible to do it perfectly, and if you don’t have such experience yet, then little nuances and secrets will be useful to you in any case)).

Balls of thread are used for various decorative purposes: decorating the ceiling, curtains, etc. I needed to make shades for a chandelier, and it turned out very beautiful and unusual.

How to make a ball of thread step by step?
For this case you will need:

rubber balloons for inflation
PVA glue
threads
starch

And now I will dwell on these components of the process in more detail.
Threads
The threads can be different - acrylic, cotton, but it is not recommended to only take woolen threads for these purposes. 100% synthetic is ideal.
Balls
For the chandelier I needed the most big balls, and, as it turns out, there are not so many species. So take balls with a ring at the end, it is very convenient to hang a ball heavy with glue from it after spreading, and the shape of the ball does not deform, thanks to this ring.

Glue
Perhaps this is the most important point during the preparation process, since the glue must be taken exclusively from a hardware store, and it must be written on it that it is intended for gluing wooden surfaces. Do not buy glue from regular office supply stores, as it is initially diluted with water.
They also advised me to use liquid glass instead of PVA glue. It is also sold in a hardware store; it has the consistency of glue, and a chandelier made from this material will last forever. But I haven't tried this method yet.

You also need to prepare the glue a little: dilute three tablespoons of starch with water, stir well and add this mixture to a half-liter jar of PVA glue, this way the glue will become a little thinner, it will be easier to apply to the threads, and the starch will give the product even more strength.

So, we inflate the balls and lubricate them with any oil - technical, sunflower or Johnson's baby... This is necessary so that the glue does not stick to the ball, but rolls up in places where there are no threads, and does not create a thin film when drying.

How to wind threads?
It’s probably more convenient to do this together, but “that second one” isn’t always nearby, so it’s important to adapt to the spreading process yourself, I tried several methods, I tried to put a thread through a half-liter plastic bottle, I don’t know how other masters did it, maybe their thread was “live”, but my thread stubbornly did not want to climb through the thin hole in the bottle...

Therefore, I had only one option - to smear myself, but apply glue to the threads directly with my hands.

Therefore, we take a large basin and pour a little glue into the bottom.

We tie the first turn of the thread into a knot and begin to evenly wind the threads around the ball. You can dip the threads in glue in small portions and then wind them, but in this case the threads may get tangled, or you can simply coat the thread evenly with your hands while placing it on the ball; this, of course, takes longer, but you don’t have to worry when the threads get tangled...
And don’t forget to cover your work surface with oilcloth, because no matter how hard you try, there’s glue all around!

We hang the well-wound ball for a couple of days to dry, then carefully deflate the rubber ball and take it out. The ball of thread is ready!

There is no greater pleasure than creating coziness in your home by filling it with unique decorations. own production. This gives you the opportunity to feel like a real decorative artist creating exclusive things. Especially if this hobby does not take up a lot of your time and does not require large financial expenditures. Balls of thread can rightfully be called such a unique decor.

Required materials and tools

To make these balls you will need very few things, most of which can be found at home. The main thing you need to buy is a regular balloon; you can definitely find everything else in your sewing box. Absolutely any thread is suitable: sewing, nylon, cotton “Iris” or “Snowflake” type, floss and even yarn - they all stick equally well. The only important thing is to monitor their quality so that they are tightly curled and not fluffy, otherwise the appearance of the product will deteriorate.

As for color, you can give free rein to your imagination. By the way, if you can’t find a thread of the desired shade, then make the ball white, and then you can always tint it by buying a can of spray paint.

You can also use glue that you have at home: PVA, stationery or even paste. Sometimes, to add hardness to the balls, the glue is diluted with water and mixed with sugar or starch.

Prepare the following materials for work:

  • white “Iris” threads;
  • round balloon;
  • ribbons for decoration;
  • PVA glue;
  • long needle;
  • scissors.

Master class on making a ball

To begin, inflate the balloon to the required size, approximately 5-10 centimeters in diameter, and tie it tightly with thread.

We will wind threads around the resulting shape. And in order for them to hold well and retain their shape, they need to be thoroughly coated with glue. Applying glue to a long thread is quite a difficult and very dirty task, so we offer a simpler and more convenient method.

Take a long needle, thread it and pierce the bottle of glue right through with this needle. Pull the needle and thread through the bottle of PVA glue. At the end you will get a sufficiently impregnated thread, which all you have to do is wind it around the balloon.

Just pay attention that the needle should not be too small, otherwise the thread will not be well saturated, but it should not be too large so that the glue does not leak out through the hole. You can't go wrong with a needle that's a little thicker than the thread.

Now attach the thread to the ball and, holding its edge, begin to gradually wrap the ball in any direction, all the time pulling the thread soaked in glue. If it seems to you that the thread is dry, then while working, periodically lightly press the plastic bottle so that more glue comes out.

Continue wrapping the ball until there are no large holes left between the threads.

To allow the ball of thread to dry, leave it for several hours.

If you plan to make several more similar balls in the near future, then it is better not to remove the thread from the glue jar.

When you are sure that the balloon is dry, you can untie the balloon.

It will begin to deflate and move away from the walls of the thread ball on its own. Carefully remove it through the hole between the threads and, if it is not damaged, you can use it again.

All that remains is to decorate the ball with a ribbon, carefully threading it between the threads, and hang it on the Christmas tree. This toy looks very neat and original.

Similar thread balls can be made of any size and shape, the main thing is to choose a suitable balloon and decorate it with all possible ways: fresh flowers and dried flowers, fabric, buboes, beads, coffee beans, rhinestones and satin ribbons.

These balls make original chandeliers, interesting interior decorations and wonderful Christmas tree decorations.
