French manicure is considered classic, which is why girls and women prefer it more often than others. It looks great on nails different lengths and shapes, as well as suitable for all fashionable images.

History of French manicure

Despite the name of the manicure, it originates in the United States of America. About 35 years ago, the head of the famous brand of varnishes and manicure products "ORLY" Jeff Pink came up with a completely the new kind manicure and a set of products for its creation. According to the story, the entrepreneur thus helped his acquaintance director to reduce the number of hours of filming time that stylists spend to change manicure for a new shooting image. Feminine, sophisticated, natural manicure is ideal for all outfits and jewelry. Subsequently, this method of coloring nails is becoming increasingly popular and is increasingly appearing on models of Paris fashion weeks, which is why it is called "French manicure".

General rules for French

french manicure in classic version involves following certain rules. If you do a manicure yourself at home, then you need to consider the following details:

  1. The french smile is formed by defining the central axis of the finger, from which curved smiles must be drawn symmetrically to the side ridges.
  2. In advance, it is necessary to designate the end points of smiles.
  3. The length of the white part of the classic jacket should be at least half as long as the beige.
  4. Do-it-yourself French must be created on pre-processed plates.

The first way: French with stencils

You can make a jacket at home using stencils, special blanks. The advantages of this technique for creating a manicure include ease of use, low cost of the material and a guaranteed even bend. The disadvantage of paper blanks is the presence of a small probability of varnish flowing under the stencil, if it is not tight enough. Stencils are divided into two types:

  • disposable (paper or adhesive-based vinyl films);
  • reusable (plastic or metal plates with a relief pattern).

For a jacket, as a rule, the first version of stencils is used; they are more convenient when creating a manicure for yourself. The difference between vinyl and paper stickers lies in the tightness of their fit to the plate. Vinyl provides reliable protection against lacquer wicking

Stencils can be made independently by making blanks from stationery tape.

French manicure is done at home with ordinary varnish. In addition to it, you will need:

  • different abrasiveness;
  • cuticle remover;
  • stencils for manicure or blanks from ordinary adhesive tape;
  • a set of varnishes of two or more colors.

Below is detailed instructions how to create the perfect traditional jacket step by step using a stencil:

It is easy to create a jacket using this technology, it is important to monitor the tightness of the adhesive strip, while the rest of the stages of creating a manicure do not require specific skills from the girl.

The second way: French with a brush

You can learn how to draw a jacket on your nails with a brush. Work with a brush is distinguished by “jewelry” and cheapness: you do not need to spend money on buying stencils. However, you must be able to draw a jacket correctly.

Manicure brushes may be made with kolinsky or sable bristles and may have nylon bristles. French is more convenient to perform with a brush of zero thickness made of natural material.

Flat brushes with bristles are ideal for French. middle length. Before use, it should be flattened on both sides to form a clear line. Irregularities in the application should be removed with a thin brush, previously moistened with nail polish remover.

A brush with a beveled edge is universal, so it is also suitable for a French manicure. They lead with such a brush from the periungual rollers to the middle of the nail, then they are connected by a line parallel to the base.

French is performed as follows:

  1. It is necessary to remove the cuticle, shape the nails and cover them with a base and beige varnish.
  2. You should draw by applying the flat part of the brush to the plate towards its axis. The brush must be worked abruptly, constantly changing the angle of its location. The smile is drawn along the natural contour. It is important to change the angle often, and make the next brush stroke slightly overlapping the previous one.
  3. Paint over the rest of the free edge of the nail.
  4. Apply clear varnish.

For the technical implementation of this method of French, practice is required.

The third way: French with dots

You can make a French manicure using dots. Its advantage is minimal financial costs, but it will take a lot of practice to create a beautiful smile. To properly do a French manicure with dots, you do not need to purchase additional tools or materials. The manicure technique consists in drawing a smile as follows: a few drops of varnish are applied to any plastic or glass coating, after which the tip of the dots is dipped in varnish, then a point is placed on the center line of the plate and two at the rollers, retreating a few millimeters from the edge of the nail. The next step: you need to put a lot of dots on an imaginary smile and connect them along a rounded line. Otherwise, the stages of manicure are identical to those presented above.

Fourth way: french with a french pencil

It is not always convenient to use a french pencil, as it is quickly washed off and moves throughout the day on the skin of the fingers. However, French manicure with its use looks especially beautiful and natural.

Nowadays, wax-based pencils have become widespread, they last longer on the plates. In addition to them, there are also ordinary pencils without the addition of wax.

It is first necessary to remove particles of dirt and dust from under the nails with a special tool, then moisten the pencil in water and draw the area under the nail with smooth movements, painting over its free edge. Pencil marks can be removed from the pad cotton swab dipped in water. Only two coats of clear varnish should be applied to the plate on the other side.

What gel polish is suitable for french manicure

The main requirement is color should be dense and saturated. Otherwise, the jacket will turn out dull, the appearance of gaps and bald spots in the smile area is not excluded. Gel polish with poor pigmentation will have to be applied in 3-4 layers to obtain the color of the smile line with the desired intensity. As a result, you can get a tubercle on the free edge of the nail and a quick detachment of the coating.

Ideally, a smile should be done in 1-2 layers. Instead of white gel polish, you can use gel paint to draw a smile. With it, there will definitely be no smudges and gaps. And it will lay down well in one or several layers.

For drawing a French manicure, I I use a thin brush with a long bristle. It allows you to achieve clear and even lines while easily smoothing corners. It can draw straight lines. Before learning how to do a French manicure with gel polish, I stocked up on several brushes and compared the result. In my opinion, thin with a long pile is ideal for a jacket. From such a brush there are no bald spots and as, for example, after a square flat or beveled.

I make a jacket with a thin brush according to the following scheme:

  1. I draw a horizontal line along the free edge of the nail.
  2. I make lines on the sides of the nail, crossing them with a horizontal one. So I set the depth of the smile.
  3. Rounding line intersections.
  4. I fill the smile with white gel polish.

French manicure video with gel polish

This video about french gel polish shows in detail how you can make such a nail design with a brush.

I propose to see a photo of a French manicure with gel polish. Here are some pretty nails you can do.

How often do you think about how good a French manicure is? You can forget about the growing varnish at the root of the nail, which after a few days looks, to put it mildly, unattractive. In addition, a French manicure visually lengthens the nail plate and makes it neat and attractive. Needless to say, you will feel like a real Frenchwoman?

A photo of a French manicure for all occasions will convince you that it looks great with both a dress and jeans, and most importantly, it can be done at home.

Tools and materials for creating a jacket

Manicure with gel polish is not complete without the use of special tools, among which are the following:

A few words about french gel polishes

Gel polish palette.

The words "gel polish" and "shellac" have long become synonymous due to their single amazing purpose - to stay on the nails for a long time. The photo of the palette shows that the color range of gel polishes is quite diverse and it even has several shades of white. In a liquid state, the gel does not stick to the nails, but when it reacts with ultraviolet rays, it is tightly fixed and forms a sticky layer, which is subsequently removed.

On the nails, you need to apply from two to five layers of color coating so that the French manicure with gel polish is saturated. Nail service experts recommend refraining from water procedures for two days after applying the gel polish coating so that it lasts longer. Gel polish is removed with an acetone-based substance. Sometimes cutting technology comes to the rescue.

Preparing for a manicure

The strength of the coating depends on how thorough the process of preparing the nail for manicure with gel polish is.

Spend a couple of hours on a full-fledged manicure, following all the steps - believe me, this is not only a pleasant procedure, but also a procedure that is useful for your nails.

  • Soak your fingers in a bath of warm water for 15-20 minutes. This is best done using aromatic oils.
  • Push the cuticle back with an orange stick and gently cut it off. This is easier to do with steamed skin, so that the cuticle is removed more easily.
  • Give your nails any shape by pushing back the free edge of the cuticle or filing a feather. The nail plate must be filed carefully, otherwise it will not hold the varnish. The shape for a jacket can be round, oval, square, triangular.

Nail treatment

The specific composition of the gel polish involves the preliminary degreasing of the nails, otherwise the manicure will not last even a day. If you decide to apply a more durable coating, you should do a couple more steps, which can be seen in the photo (see under the step-by-step guide):

  1. Buff your nails. With this nail file, the nail plate becomes rough, which will allow the gel polish to last longer.
  2. Wipe your nails with a tissue.
  3. Apply a degreaser to the nail, thanks to which the varnish will not peel off. It is important not to touch the treated part of the nail.
  4. Wipe nails with primer. After the nail plate is covered white coating, you can be sure that now the gel polish will firmly lie on the surface.

The sequence of the following steps depends on your desire and imagination. You can start applying a color coating to the entire surface of the nail, and then draw a line for the moon manicure, which, by the way, is very fashionable now.

If you decide to leave most of the nail unpainted for a classic French manicure, follow the next few steps (starting with the fifth in the picture).

We draw a jacket with gel polish: we use strips and stencils

Apply a thin layer of protective base under the gel. It is important to paint over the free edge so that the gel polish lasts longer. Dry each hand with a UV lamp for 30-40 seconds. Wipe off the sticky layer with a tissue. The next stage is the most creative, because French manicure with gel polish involves drawing holes. The stencil will allow you to make a perfectly even smile line, which you can complement with drawings and rhinestones.

In the photo: the use of a round stencil.

French with a round stencil is done in no time: after the degreaser, primer and base have been applied to the nails, decide on the color.

Try to create with the help of gel polish not a white jacket, but yellow, and your nails will look very impressive. Stick the stencils on each finger very evenly so that they cover the surface of the entire smile line. The smile should be painted over with gel polish and dried with a UV lamp. If necessary, paint over the smile again, remove the sticky layer with a tissue and sharply remove the stencils. Cover the entire nail with Top Coat. So the free edge of the nail will remain painted over for a long time.

Straight looks great on square nails, round is great for creating a moon manicure. Young women of fashion will surely pay attention to a sharp and wavy stencil.

There are no minuses in the strips, except for the only one - they are too thin, so the varnish must be applied very carefully so that it does not get on the free layer of the nail plate.
