I recently went to the competition website and found information for those wishing to become participants: age 14 - 22 years, height 175 - 181 cm, hips no more than 90 cm. That's me! My height is 177 cm, my measurements are 86-60-86 - the most model-like. A quite pretty girl smiled at me from the mirror. I decided: I’ll try to change journalism to the modeling business. What if I get lucky? The three finalists of Elite Model Look Russia 2007 are awarded contracts for large sums and a trip to the international finals.

Day one. Most of those who want to become models are “non-format”

Early Saturday morning. Hundreds of tall, pretty girls flock to the Novinsky Passage shopping center, where Moscow contestants are selected. The young ladies sit on leather sofas in the hall and get to know each other.

Next to me on the ottoman were two girls - a slender, noble brown-haired Tamara and a curly blonde with cornflower blue eyes, Masha. The last one came to the competition Elite Model Look Russia from the Moscow region.

It’s worth a try,” she smiles timidly. - An attempt is not torture.

Like me, both of my new acquaintances had never taken part in castings or walked the catwalk. But they learned modeling skills.

“I recently attended the finals of the Super Model Of The World competition,” I tell you. - So there were girls there - just copies of Natalia Vodianova!
The interlocutors opened their mouths, and I felt that the atmosphere was heating up.
“As a journalist,” I add.
“Oh, I would have said that right away,” Toma sighs. “Otherwise you’ll give us tough competition.”

Start of casting Elite Model Look Russia we had to wait two hours. Finally, they invited me to the locker room: to change into a swimsuit and put on high-heeled shoes. For those who did not bring a bikini, the organizers readily provided very open options. Not everyone had high-heeled shoes either. You had to either hastily beg those already “looked through” to borrow shoes, or - at your own peril and risk - walk along the “tongue” in boots.

They undressed, squeezing themselves against the walls. This is where you could immediately detect professionalism! The experienced model is not shy about showing off not only her breasts, but also her bikini area.

My new girlfriends turned out to have quite impressive lower 90s and small upper 90s. In general, it turned out that the volume of most people who want to become models clearly does not meet the requirements. Just cute girls with chubby knees and delicious butts. Good for life, not so good for the podium.

And here is our “finest hour”. We were told to split up into groups. I ended up in the first place. We were placed in line in front of the red carpet marking the podium. “The first one went!”

When it came to me, suddenly even my sense of humor, with which I had previously looked at what was happening, disappeared somewhere. My knees trembled treacherously - I wish I had never in my life walked around in panties and a bra in front of unfamiliar men with cameras.

First they filmed me against the wall at the beginning of the “podium”. Then we had to walk along the red carpet in front of the camera: back and forth. Well, I went, swaying my hips as hard as I could. The amplitude made me and those around me laugh: the photographers and the jury burst out laughing. So, here it is, the turn... I remember how Adriana Lima walks on TV, I smile... Phew! That's it, I'm exhausted!

Day two, the most nervous

On Sunday they called me: I passed the final casting Elite Model Look Russia, which will take place in two hours in the same Novinsky Passage! I arrive - surprisingly, not a single familiar face. Around tall, slender, very beautiful girls who passed the casting in other cities and from modeling agencies - there were also local competitions. And how did I end up here?

We are sent back to change into bikinis. If at the first casting you were asked to put your hair in a bun, and makeup was prohibited, today we have makeup artists and hairdressers working with us.

Scouts from France came to evaluate us, including the international director of scouting at the Elite agency, Michaela Goddard-Kensada. Of the sixty-four models, sixteen should remain.

We sit, huddled, on the cold benches of Novinsky. Interestingly, the models do not bring up the topic of diets in their chat. Everyone is proud of their naturally thin bodies. I don't always like talking.

The owners of angelic faces whisper every now and then, wishing that their beautiful rival would stumble on the podium. And to discuss whose butt sags, whose legs are thick, and whose bones stick out is generally a sacred matter. But not everyone is like that, of course.

My mother worked as a model until she was 22,” says Alina Slutskaya, one of the most charming participants. - And then I was born. I am only thirteen years old now, so my mother was at first against my participation in the competition. And then it caught fire...

Alina is the youngest among all. She will turn fourteen only in a week, and the age limit is from 14 to 22. She was admitted to the competition as an exception.

Today everyone is even more afraid than yesterday. There are two calm ones: me and 22-year-old Yana. She is a professional model.

“I work in Paris, Milan, London, and I came here just for fun,” she says. “And I don’t really count on winning.” Young people are needed here.

When the French jury appeared, we were lined up again and allowed to march in front of them. Some were turned around and asked to walk again and again; the volumes of some were measured with a centimeter tape. I tripped a couple of times while walking down the red carpet. The head of the jury, Michaela, looked at me cheerfully and laughed: “Very nice!” (“Very cute” - English)

When everyone had passed, Michaela divided us into groups of 16 people, looked at everyone again and encouraged us with a short speech:

Tomorrow at 11 you will come to the final photo session and press conference, where the 16 finalists will be announced,” she said in English. - But remember! You are the most beautiful! You are all winners!

Day three. The finalists were known in advance

On the third day, we were dressed in a bikini and a T-shirt with the logos of the competition. Some girls were picked out from the crowd, their makeup was done, and their hair was styled. Then these same girls were dressed in chic little black dresses and arranged in the order in which they would appear in front of journalists. So, even before the official announcement of the results at a press conference, we learned the names of the winners. Their number included 13-year-old Alina Slutskaya.

Alas, your humble servant was not among those who reached the finals. Which is to be expected. Everyone has their own place in this life.

The next time I saw my new acquaintances was on September 29, when I appeared at the finals of the competition Elite Model Look Russia as a journalist. The winners of the Russian stage of the competition were 14-year-old brunette Nika Kushe, a Russian woman living in Prague, Permian Olga Vasilyeva and Ksenia Telegina from Volgograd. In a month and a half, the girls go to Turkey for an international competition. Good luck to them!
