Periodic washing of shoes to remove dirt and unpleasant odors is an important step in the care of sneakers, sneakers and any other products with fabric inserts. Before you put your favorite pair in the washing machine drum, study the recommendations for processing the materials from which the shoes are made.

What products can be washed in a machine?

Cleaning and washing shoes in washing machine acceptable if its upper part is made of textiles. Most often the fabric is made from:

  • slippers;
  • sneakers;
  • moccasins;
  • sneakers;
  • ballet shoes

These shoes can be washed with any suitable detergent. If membrane materials were used in the manufacture of the product, it is better to process it with liquid rather than granular powder. The abrasive composition of the product is not the most in the best possible way affects the membrane - reduces the protective functions of the material, worsens its appearance.

What shoes are prohibited from washing?

Models made of leather, leatherette, felt boots, fur, wool, suede and patent leather shoes. The method of connecting the sole to the upper part of the product also plays an important role. If the sneakers are stitched, they are not afraid of even long and intensive washing. The same cannot be said about flimsy models with poor sizing.

What is important to consider

In addition to the type of fabric of the product, it is important to consider the quality and reliability of the fittings. Dangling, flimsy elements may come off during the washing process. Decor with sharp corners can damage and scratch the fabric. Rivets and locks made of plain metal rather than stainless steel can even ruin your shoes with rust stains.

Before placing shoes in:

1. Check the integrity of the seams and lining of the sneakers. If the fabric is torn, the filling may swell greatly during the washing process, become deformed and come out of the product;
2. Wash the sole and protectors. Pebbles, gravel and small hard debris are harmful to the surface of the drum. During the washing process, they will make an incredible noise that will be heard two floors up and down.

Before washing, be sure to remove stones from the soles of your shoes.

What mode is used to wash shoes?

Fortunately, the “Shoe Washing” option is included in the set of modes of most modern machines. Owners of such machines do not need to configure anything additional: set the desired temperature, intensity and cycle time. Less fortunate are those whose equipment cannot boast of such functionality. All owners of such cars must always:

Switch the machine to delicate mode;
completely deactivate automatic spin.

Universal washing rules for any shoes:

1. Pre-clean the products from stones and dirt. This is especially true for models made of white textiles with stubborn stains. Before placing shoes in the drum, treat the fabric with a suitable detergent by hand and rinse under cold water;
2. Remove insoles and laces;
3. Always wash your shoes in a special mesh bag;
4. Remember. One wash cycle – one pair of shoes;
5. Maximum water heating should not be higher than 30 degrees Celsius;
6. The maximum intensity of rotation of the drum during the washing process is 600 revolutions;
7. Be sure to disable the spin function if the manufacturer has not indicated the possibility of this processing method;
8. You cannot dry shoes on the drying program;
9. Washing one pair should not last more than 30 minutes.

Shoes are always washed in a bag

As detergent Both liquid and granular powder can be used. But it is better to opt for a liquid cleaner. It, unlike its solid counterpart, never leaves streaks or soap stains at normal dosages.

Pre-treating stains

Since washing shoes in a machine is a rather delicate process, where time and temperature conditions must be observed, items with particularly difficult stains must be pre-treated manually. A half-hour cycle is unlikely to be able to independently cope with stubborn and old stains from oil, grass, and paint.

Shoes with stubborn stains must be pre-treated

Grass stains

Soak the abrasion generously with water mixed with ammonia, and rub the top with laundry soap. Without rinsing, place the shoes in the drum.

Paint stains

You can clean the paint using white spirit. Pour the liquid onto the sponge and scrub the stain. Place the prepared shoes in the machine and start the main cycle. Preliminary rinsing of the product with water is not required.

Oil stains

Oily stains can be treated with regular dishwashing liquid. Apply the product to the stain. Leave it for a day. Without rinsing, place the pair into the machine.

Soot stains

Soot can be easily removed with turpentine. Mix the product in water in one to one proportions, moisten the stain, rub and rinse with water. The shoes are ready for the main wash.

Drying

Any shoe washing should be completed with proper drying. Do not dry textiles on a radiator or in direct sunlight. Excessive heat will destroy adhesive layer. The product will lose its shape and color.

Do not dry shoes in direct sunlight

An ideal place for drying shoes can be a heated balcony or loggia. For a faster process, it is better to use special electrical inserts. If there are none, a regular newspaper will do. Fill the entire interior space of the product tightly with paper. After stuffing, the shoes should become voluminous, as if they were worn on your feet. The paper will quickly absorb excess moisture. Then it should be replaced with a new one. Snow-white textile shoes require a more delicate approach. They should only be filled with clean, unprinted sheets. Alternatively, you can use bandages, gauze, napkins.

Shoe cleaning – important procedure for long-term preservation of the original appearance of the product. Is it possible to machine wash winter shoes, and are all materials able to withstand this treatment? Cleaning leather boots

Machine processing can lead to damage to shoes, however, if there is an urgent need for this, a number of rules must be followed. The main ones:

  • You can wash leather shoes after removing the layer of dirt from the sole (under running warm water).
  • Be sure to remove the laces, as well as parts that may get stuck in the drum of the machine and lead to damage to both the shoes and the machine.
  • The insoles are washed by hand; the laces should also not be put into the washing machine. Regular laundry soap copes well with stains.
  • When it comes to washing leather shoes, you cannot do without a special shoe bag. Otherwise, washing will lead to an undesirable result, and the shoes will become unsuitable for further use.
  • The washing temperature should not exceed 30 degrees, and the washing mode should only be used for delicate items. We should not forget that before starting the process, the spin must be turned off (even at minimum speed).
  • As a cleaning agent, you can use a proven washing powder without scented or bleaching granules.

A regular office eraser will help get rid of the shine on suede boots. Knowing how shoes are used, you can quickly and effortlessly return the product to its attractive appearance.

Machine cleaning of sports winter shoes

Many housewives are concerned about the question of whether it is possible in the machine, and whether this will negatively affect its appearance. Many models of modern technology provide such a mode to safely clean winter sneakers or sneakers. It is best to use liquid detergents rather than powdered ones. They wash out better, don’t leave streaks and help remove bad smell. If a powder is selected, then you need to add a little of it to the container.

If the task is how to wash shoes with decorative decorations, then it is best to do it manually, since after machine cleaning all reflective elements, sequins and rhinestones will remain in the drum. You cannot machine wash suede sneakers because the sensitive material is sensitive to water. The product will have an unsightly appearance and will be impossible to wear.

If it is not possible to wash your shoes in an automatic washing machine in the recommended mode, then you should choose the function for cleaning delicate items. It allows you to safely remove dirt from your sneakers using a pillowcase or bag. Spinning and drying are unacceptable modes for sports shoes, leading to its deformation. The best option for drying sneakers is to leave the shoes on a horizontal surface at room temperature, away from heating appliances and open sun rays. The use of steam rooms, hot radiators and radiators is unacceptable.

It is recommended to treat your favorites after washing and drying winter sneakers impregnation with water-repellent properties. You can buy it in the form of a spray at any hypermarket or shoe store. Before the procedure, the product must be thoroughly dried so that there are no unsightly stains left.

Ways to clean the inside of winter shoes

If you urgently need to resolve the issue of how to wash your winter shoes inside, you can purchase several bottles of essential oils. They help get rid of stagnant unpleasant odor. However, before doing this, the inside of the shoe should be cleaned. You can wash leather shoes using a soap solution and a clean piece of cloth. How to wash leather shoes in a machine? If there is no fur, then you can put boots or shoes in a bag, turn on the “automatic” in delicate mode and add a little cleaning gel. The fur is cleaned only by hand using a carpet brush.

If washing does not help to completely remove the smell, then the insoles and the entire inside of the shoes are treated with a damp sponge with the addition of a few drops of tea tree oil, rosemary, lavender or eucalyptus. Flavored natural remedy you can choose any, the main thing is to add a little of it to the sponge, otherwise the smell will be sharp and unpleasant.

How to properly wash winter shoes in a machine

When choosing a method of how to wash shoes in a washing machine, you should also decide what is best to clean the dirt, because one warm water not enough and the stains will still remain. You should not immediately add powdered detergents when washing, as the granules remain in the fibers and are difficult to wash out. Because of this, light-colored shoes turn yellow after drying, and white stains may remain on colored shoes.

Experienced housewives add products of liquid or gel consistency, but this should not be hair shampoo or liquid soap. Now you can pick it up in stores special compounds, intended for cleaning contaminants in automatic machines, for example, “Persil”, “Losk”, “Ariel” and many others. etc. It is allowed to use cleaning capsules, which dissolve in the drum in warm water and remove dirt well. Plus, things smell nice after this treatment.

So, the question of whether winter shoes can be washed by machine has been resolved; all that remains is to correctly follow the sequence of actions and bring the product into proper condition. The main washing steps are as follows:

  1. Remove all dirty items from the drum; shoes are washed in the machine separately.
  2. Place one or two pairs of shoes (maximum) in the “machine machine”. A laundry bag or pillowcase is required.
  3. If capsules are used to clean the product, then add it to the drum with the shoes; gels and liquid formulations are poured into the powder container.
  4. Close the washing machine door.
  5. Select the shoe washing mode. If this is not the case, then you need to turn on the function for cleaning delicate fabrics, set it to a maximum of 40 degrees, remove drying and spinning, and also turn off the speed.
  6. After the end of washing signal, remove the bag.
  7. Fill the shoes with clean white paper so that the product does not deform during natural drying.
  8. It is best to send your shoes to dry on a balcony or other open area, where there is plenty of air and no direct sunlight.

Attention! Exposure to direct sunlight has a negative impact on the condition of the shoes, and there is a possibility that the adhesive layer will be destroyed.

Not a single manufacturer indicates on the label whether the boots can be washed in a washing machine. This is due to the high risk of damage to the product after intensive processing in the drum of the machine. However, many experiment, selecting modes and temperatures, and get decent results. You can wash boots without any problems if they have no decorative decorations, and the main material for them is fabric, not leather.

A prerequisite for those who are planning to wash their shoes using a “machine” is that your favorite shoes should only be kept in a special bag during the cleaning process. You can further protect your equipment and boots by placing a few unnecessary rags or towels in the drum. It is not recommended to wash boots often in a washing machine (maximum 3 times a month), since even the highest quality materials can deteriorate from intensive cleaning. The service life of your favorite pair of shoes can be increased if you take proper care of them.

Can shoes be washed in a washing machine? It is impossible to answer this question unequivocally, there are too many “ifs”. Everything will depend on the type of shoe, the material from which it is made, the presence of additional elements on it that do not tolerate water, and the like. In general, shoes are not designed for the loads to which clothes are exposed in the drum of a washing machine, so the success of washing will also depend on the selected washing mode.

Is it possible or not to wash?

The first question that arises for people who want to wash their shoes in an automatic washing machine is which shoes can be washed and which cannot? Indeed, you don’t want to just risk your shoes or boots for the sake of an experiment. I would like to know the result in advance, but unfortunately this does not happen. This is not to say that, for example, sports shoes can be washed, but leather shoes cannot. Sports shoes can also easily become damaged during washing, so Before you throw your shoes in the washing machine, do your research!

  • Review the manufacturer's instructions for washing specific shoes. Often, companies that sew shoes hang information labels on them or publish information about caring for them on the company’s websites on the Internet.
  • Be sure to examine the material the shoes are made from. For example, sneakers, the main material for which is fabric, will definitely survive machine washing, but shoes made of leather or suede will find their “death” in the drum of the washing machine.
  • If parts of the shoes are glued together, washing them in a machine can destroy them. In general, glued shoes do not tolerate soaking in warm water, so if you find glued seams or glued elements on them, do not wash them in a machine.
  • If shoes have leatherette inserts, please note that the appearance of these inserts may deteriorate, so either take measures to protect them or refuse to machine wash them.

Important! You should not wash winter or demi-season shoes with fur. Faux fur It will come out and your shoes will be seriously damaged.

Preparation

If you decide to wash a dirty pair of shoes in the washing machine, you should not thoughtlessly throw them into the drum and start the washing program. Everything can end disastrously not only for these shoes, but also for the automatic washing machine itself. And the point here is not the possibility or impossibility of washing specific shoes, but the right approach to prepare for this process.

Before washing, you need to protect your shoes from excessive mechanical impact of the rotating drum, which can lead to damage to the sole, socks and other parts. At the same time, you need to protect the drum itself and the hatch of the washing machine from impacts with a hard sole. There were cases when, during washing, shoes created an imbalance in the drum. How to solve such problems at once? It’s very simple, you just need to put a pair of shoes in a washing bag, and then put them in the drum of the machine.

Before washing shoes in the washing machine, you should remove large pieces of dirt from the soles, remove the laces, disconnect the buckles and all other detachable solid objects. In addition, you need to remove the insoles from your shoes. After this, the shoes are placed in a washing bag, inserted into the machine, and the wash is started.

Pay attention! If you don't have a special laundry bag, you can use an old pillowcase.

Washing and drying: procedure

When deciding how to wash shoes in a washing machine, you need to decide on the choice of detergent, because it will be difficult to remove dirt in ordinary warm water. Experts strongly do not recommend using regular dry laundry detergent. Often poorly dissolved powder granules leave colored stains or white marks on shoes, which are difficult to remove later, so it is better to use a liquid detergent.

Don't experiment with liquid soap or hair shampoo. These products are not suitable for your washing machine and may cause damage to it. It is better to take a special liquid detergent for washing colored items in the washing machine. It will work better in this case. Read more about liquid detergents and detergent powders automatic washing you can read in the article

Once you have decided on the choice of shoe washing product, experts recommend following these steps.

  1. Remove any dirty laundry from the drum, as shoes should be washed separately from other items. Besides, Only one pair of shoes should be placed in the drum.
  2. Pour your chosen detergent into the powder container.
  3. Place the washing bag with the prepared shoes into the drum of the washing machine.
  4. Select a washing program: temperature not higher than 30 0 C, speed not exceeding 600, turn off the “spin” and “drying” functions.
  5. We wait until the end of the washing program and remove the shoes from the drum of the machine.
  6. We push white paper into the shoes so that they do not lose their original shape during drying, and then put them in a warm place to dry.

Pay attention! When drying shoes, avoid excessive heat sources and direct sunlight. Drying too quickly will definitely deform the shoes and ruin their appearance.

What to do if the dirt is not washed off?

Washing in a machine did not bring results? Did the dirt remain on the shoes? This means you will have to deal with stains “the old fashioned way” manually. Indeed, machine washing, alas, is not a panacea for difficult stains; experts recommend that before putting shoes in the machine drum, treat all difficult stains manually so that they come off during washing. However, most often it turns out that there are difficult stains on shoes only after these shoes have undergone “execution” in the drum of the washing machine.

Usually, after washing in warm water, difficult stains are set even better, and they become much more difficult to remove. But there is nothing we can do, we will try. There are several the right ways get rid of various persistent pollution stuck to shoes.

  • Dishwashing detergent will help remove machine oil stains. You need to apply this product to the stains, let the shoes sit for a day, and then wash them in the washing machine.
  • Ammonia and laundry soap will help remove grass stains from shoes. Mix a tablespoon of ammonia with 200 ml of warm water and rub the stained area well with this mixture. Then treat the grass stains with a bar of laundry soap and then place the shoes in the drum of the washing machine.
  • Turpentine will remove soot stains from shoes. Apply a little turpentine mixed with half and half water to the stains, rub them a little with a cloth, and then wash the shoes as usual.
  • White spirit removes paint stains from shoes well. Dampen a rag with this substance and thoroughly wipe the shoes until paint stains are removed.

Important! Re-washing shoes is a big challenge, so try to identify and treat difficult stains in advance.

To summarize, we note that not all shoes can be washed in an automatic machine, so before you decide to do this, you should check everything carefully. You also need to examine your shoes for complex stains, because such stains in the drum of the machine will not come off, but rather will stick, so you need to treat them in advance.

When buying shoes, you should consult in advance about the rules for caring for them. The quality of the material affects the timing of its use. Leather products They wear longer and better, although their price is much higher. But no less important proper care for shoes.

Sometimes shoes have to be washed, and the problem of drying them becomes very urgent

Need for washing

On dusty streets it gets very dirty, and it is almost impossible to get rid of the sweaty foot odor. To prevent shoes from smelling, they use special fragrances, but they are powerless in extreme heat. Everyone should be able to properly wash, clean and dry shoes, boots, sneakers and even house slippers. Dirt and neglect will shorten their service life. The advent of washing machines partially solved this problem. But you need to know how to wash shoes in a washing machine correctly.

Not machine washable:

  • fashion items (pumps, men's and women's shoes, boots);
  • winter fur boots, insulated boots, ugg boots and suede products;
  • all types of varnish products.

Manufacturers generally do not recommend machine cleaning. You can wash it by hand, although the results of such washing are not always pleasing. It is not always possible to get rid of the smell of sweat, and the dirt only gets smeared. Only machine washing will give your shoes a quality look. You can use dry cleaning services, but it is quite possible to solve this problem at home.

Machine washable to give your shoes a really clean look.

To wash yourself you should know some subtleties:

  • Do not immediately place shoes in the car. It is necessary to carefully inspect the product inside and out, then remove all elements that could come off during washing and damage the device. Locks, zippers, metal fasteners should be fastened, and shoes should be placed in a special bag.
  • It is recommended to remove the laces and insoles. The laces can be washed with the shoes. The insoles are washed with a brush. Use washing powder or laundry soap. Flavorings are added to remove unpleasant odors.
  • To keep the machine in working condition, the soles of shoes are thoroughly cleaned of stuck dirt. It is also necessary to get rid of small stones and other particles inside the product. Before washing, the product should be rinsed with water to remove as much sand as possible.
  • It is convenient to wash shoes using special bags. If such bags are not available, it is recommended to put old towels in the drum or use old pillowcases. This will ensure safe operation of the machine. Heavy shoes, such as sneakers, placed in bags will not hit the sides of the drum.
  • You cannot place more than 2 pairs in the drum (also in bags) so as not to damage the door glass.
  • You can properly wash your shoes in a washing machine by selecting a special washing mode. The temperature should not exceed 30-40℃. Higher temperatures may be dangerous and the quality of the product will then deteriorate. Scale forms in the machine, which is difficult to get rid of.
  • Quantity washing powder used in normal quantities. But if you need to get rid of stains on white shoes, then add bleaching agents such as Vanish. To remove the smell of sweat, special rinses are used.
  • After washing, the spin mode is turned off. This will protect the machine from destruction of bearings due to increased vibrations. If the machine has a drying mode, then it is also turned off. Elevated temperatures can adversely affect the quality of the material, and the shoes become deformed.

At the end of washing, the shoes are removed from the bags and dried. To do this, paper (white only) is compacted inside the boots or slippers. This will help maintain their shape. It is changed when dry. Boots are dried on special lasts.

You can load no more than two pairs of shoes into the machine at a time.

Sports shoes

For sports, you need sneakers, sneakers or slippers. These are very comfortable shoes. The only thing that bothers me is the unpleasant smell. It is also recommended to machine wash sports shoes. It is not damaged, and the smell of sweat is removed well. When starting to wash, you need to know that:

  • Leather sports shoes lose their appearance inside the machine; it is recommended to wash them by hand.
  • Washing suede sneakers is prohibited. The high sensitivity of suede to water makes them unsuitable for further use.
  • Damaged items should not be washed. If slippers, sneakers or sneakers have defects, then inside the machine after trying to wash them they will be completely destroyed.
  • If boots or sneakers have decorations, rhinestones and reflective elements, then the machine will “help” quickly get rid of them.
  • Avoid washing low-quality products, which include Chinese sneakers. Cheap glue is used to produce them, and after heat treatment in the machine they will simply fall apart.
  • Fabric shoes wash well, but you should pay attention to any damage that could cause them to deteriorate completely.
  • The products are placed in bags, which will facilitate uniform operation of the machine.

It is recommended to wash sports shoes using a special liquid detergent. It washes off well and can be used to get rid of unpleasant odors. When washing with powder, you should not use too much of it; it will be difficult to rinse afterwards.

IN modern typewriters There is a mode specifically for washing shoes

Modern machines contain a shoe washing mode, but if this function is missing, then a delicate program is installed. It allows you to thoroughly wash your shoes (placed in a bag) without damaging them. Sports products, like all other products, should not be dried or wrung out in a machine. This will lead to its deformation.

Washing sports shoes causes a loud noise from the machine, so you should not do this work at a late time.

Sports products should not be dried on hot radiators or in the sun. You cannot use the steam room either. Drying is carried out at room temperature without exposure to sunlight.

After drying, the product is treated with a special water-repellent impregnation. It is available in all specialized stores. This aerosol is applied only to a dry product.

It should be noted that often as a result of washing shoes in an automatic machine, they lose their quality and it will become impossible to wear them. The machine itself may also be damaged. Responsibility for the results of washing should be taken solely by yourself. You should not wash your shoes in a machine more than 2 or 3 times a month.

When daily care It's not enough to take care of shoes, the question comes to us - how to wash sneakers in a washing machine? Where should you start and how to do everything right? Let's look at everything in order.

Features of machine cleaning of sneakers

Doing your own laundry takes time, which is often not enough. However, sports shoes can be washed in an automatic washing machine. To do this, it is enough to follow the recommendations. Which?

Stage 1. Prepare the shoes

Having made a conscious decision that you are not going to wash without a machine, you need to carefully inspect the sneakers for all kinds of holes and cracks. If any are found, the process of washing sneakers will be impossible.

When inspecting sports shoes, pay attention to even the smallest details. If you are not sure that they will withstand washing, it is better not to risk it.

To properly prepare shoes for “bath procedures”, it is enough to follow simple rules. Instructions presented in the table:

Images e Sequence of actions

Step 1

We clean the outer part of the sneakers as much as possible from debris. We remove frozen soil, leaves, grass, etc.

Step 2

We take out the insoles and laces if they give way.

Step 3

We tidy up the sole.

To avoid damage to the machine and the shoes themselves, it is advisable to use a special bag for sneakers during washing. Its price is quite affordable and can be found in any hardware store.

If you don't have a laundry bag on hand, you can use an old unnecessary pillowcase. She will cope with the task perfectly.

You can catch two birds with one stone if you wash purely “household” items together with your shoes - old rugs, rags and towels. This manipulation will prevent the hard parts of the shoes from harming the mechanics of the washing machine.

Stage 2. Prepare the washing machine

It is worth taking care not only of preparing your shoes, but also of your washing machine. You need to correctly determine what mode to wash your sneakers on, what temperature to choose and how to properly place the shoes in the drum.

Basic rules:

  1. Select the washing mode delicate or, if provided by the manufacturer, a special mode for shoes;

  1. Keep no more than two pairs in the car. adult shoes or three pairs of children's shoes (there are cases of breaking glass doors from the inside);

Take into account the fact that while the machine is operating, the house will be quite noisy. Choose the right time in advance.

  1. Suitable temperature - 30-40°C. With more high temperature sneakers may come apart;
  2. Pour one regular portion of powder into the receiver, this will be enough to wash several pairs of shoes;

  1. Turn off the spin function. This option has a detrimental effect on some parts of the machine when washing shoes;
  2. If there is a built-in drying mechanism, turn it off. In our case, this can lead to damage to the shoes.

Stage 3. Final

After you have heard the signal that the washing machine has completed its operation, the final stage begins - drying clean shoes. Let's look at all the available options:

A good example Methods

Method 1

We compact paper into the shoes (as much as will fit) and leave it in a warm place, but not near the radiator.

Remember to change the paper as it becomes saturated with moisture to avoid a musty smell.

Method 2

In hot weather, we hang shoes on a rope by the laces or on clothespins on fresh air- on the balcony or on the street.

Method 3

IN winter period We place it on the battery, placing a newspaper under the sole.

Personally, I don’t like this method, as the shoes can dry out and even fall apart. It is better to dry it naturally.

Method 4

We use a universal electric drying device.

What about other shoes?

Having figured out how to wash sneakers in an automatic machine, the next question arises - is it possible to wash other shoes in this way? Oddly enough, many types of textile shoes are subject to this treatment: sneakers, moccasins, ballet shoes, flip-flops.

You also need to avoid processing shoes that are too cheap or dubious in appearance. Even being completely new and of high quality in appearance, it may not survive a machine shake.

Winter shoes, and leather should not be washed in a machine. You can deform the shoes themselves and cause irreparable damage to the machine itself.

Having decided which shoes can be washed and which ones should not, let’s figure out how to do it correctly.

The algorithm will be like this:

  1. Finding out the material- there must be textiles;
  2. We carry out a detailed inspection for damage;
  3. We produce pre-cleaning outer side and soles;
  4. We take it out, if possible, laces and insoles;
  5. Setting up the machine:
  • Temperature 30–40 °C;
  • Delicate or shoe mode;
  • Disable the spin and dry options;
  1. Drying shoes after finishing washing.

Resume

If you do everything right, your shoes will look fresh and tidy. Try following the recommendations and you will realize that washing sneakers in the washing machine is an easy process.
