The decoupage technique only seems complicated, but in fact beautiful things are created simply and quickly.

If you are just starting to master this type of needlework, decoupage a watch - a master class for beginners with step-by-step photos will help you understand all the nuances and eliminate mistakes. The kitchen clock is used as a basis, so the corresponding picture was chosen. You can take a different drawing that matches the style and purpose.

Preparation of materials and tools for decoration

To make decoupage of a watch with your own hands you will need:

  • plywood clock blank;
  • clock mechanism with hands;
  • numbers 1, 2, 3, 6, 9 made of plywood;
  • acrylic primer;
  • acrylic paints: white and black;
  • napkins for decoupage with a themed pattern;
  • foam sponges or regular foam sponges for dishes;
  • PVA glue;
  • sandpaper - the finer the better;
  • synthetic brushes: 1 wide (1.5-2 cm) and several small ones;
  • ruler and protractor or dial stencil;
  • acrylic varnish;
  • scissors.

All this, including the mechanism, is sold in stores for handicrafts. It is cheaper to buy paint, primer and varnish in large cans at hardware stores.

Step-by-step work technique

This master class on decoupaging a kitchen clock uses the simplest napkin technique. You can get acquainted with other ways

Cut a small piece of sandpaper and sand both sides of the piece and the face of the numbers.
Using a foam sponge, cover the workpiece with acrylic primer on both sides and let it dry.

Prime the numbers on the front side.

Using a sponge, cover both sides of the plywood with white paint in an even, thin layer.

After the surfaces have dried, use a thin brush to paint the end side with white paint.

Use a thin brush to paint the numbers on the front and all end sides with black paint.

Take the selected napkin and attach it to the watch blank for decoupage. Try on which fragment and how you will place it.

On the desired section of the napkin, carefully separate the top layer from the bottom.

Tear out the necessary elements of the drawing. Try them on in a circle, determine the best location for each.

Starting from the main (central) fragment, glue the image. Using a synthetic brush with a small amount of PVA glue, begin to coat the designs from the center to the periphery with light movements, simultaneously smoothing out all the wrinkles and expelling air bubbles.

Let the picture dry well.

If there are places on the motif where the pattern breaks off, leaving a sharp border with the background, after the glue has completely dried, carefully use sandpaper with light movements in one direction (from the pattern to the background) to erase the border so that it is not noticeable.

Cover the front side of the clock and numbers with 2-3 layers of varnish.

After the front side has dried reverse side Also cover the circle with 1-2 layers of varnish.

Using a ruler and protractor or stencil, mark where the numbers should be placed. Use superglue to glue them to the dial.

Install the clock mechanism with hands.

The clock using the decoupage technique is ready. Hang it on the wall and admire the result!

If you no longer consider yourself a beginner in decoupage, move on to more complex master classes. Make it using the technique with a printout or. The prepositional napkin technique in this instruction is the simplest. With its help, you can give a second life to old things and decorate plywood blanks sold in craft stores.

A master class on decoupage of a clock for the kitchen was prepared by Anna_Ko, especially for readers of the online magazine “Women’s Hobbies”.

Some people paint pictures, assemble furniture themselves, take stunning photos, or knit rugs. And decoupage occupies a special place in this list. In fact, decoupage is a type of applique familiar to most people since the times kindergarten. Decoupage is done exclusively with napkins, both special and ordinary, but with interesting patterns. The structure is varnished, and then it becomes incredibly similar to a skillful painting.

Since this technique is only gaining momentum, the operating instructions are simply irreplaceable. The easiest way to decorate is a watch; this is where the path to professionalism begins. First you need to select a picture.

Which design to choose is up to the needlewoman to decide, but the material should be selected more meticulously:

  • Multilayer napkins with a pattern;
  • Rice paper or special pictures from craft stores;
  • You can take and print personal photos, but before starting work, you need to keep them in water for a long time.

The work begins with a wooden clock base, which can be purchased at almost any craft store. The base must be sanded so that the application lies as evenly as possible.

You can purchase plastic versions - they will need to be degreased. A plate can also be used as a base, you just need to drill a hole in the middle to attach the arrows. Then the background is made in any way possible way. Most often, we are talking about dyeing, aging or sticking rice paper.

The picture needs to be cut out. It’s better to carefully tear it off with your hands rather than cut it with scissors - it’s easier to disguise the torn edge. The drawing is attached to PVA or specialized glue for decoupage. This is the most difficult moment; there should not be a single fold or unevenness. Therefore, for the first time, they usually choose drawings on rice paper - it will not allow this.

Next, the entire surface should dry. After this, it is covered with a layer of acrylic varnish and then dries. This pattern must be repeated three times. And after complete drying, the clock mechanism is attached to the back, hands and dial are attached (if needed). All you have to do is insert the battery and the watch is ready!

Simple decoupage of watch dials

If you plan to have a dial on your future wall clock, then you need to decide not only on the appearance.

You can choose:

  • Ready drawing with numbers;
  • Separate dials;
  • Numbers made of plastic or wood;
  • Apply paint.

Of course, it is most convenient to choose a design option with markings already applied. True, in this situation, the defects will be much more noticeable, and it will no longer be possible to correct the drawing, as is the case with a separate dial. It’s very convenient if there is some kind of mistake, you can cover it up with a number or markings. The result will be a unique designer item.

You can glue ready-made numbers made of plastic or wood on top of the picture, after painting them in any color. True, the numbers will become convex, which does not always look aesthetically pleasing.

You can draw the markings yourself, you just need a steady hand so that the curved lines don’t spoil anything. Therefore, if you do not have the necessary skills, beginning needlewomen are advised to stick to ready-made options.

We make watch decoupage with our own hands

It is very important to choose an interesting and beautiful drawing for future hours.

Among the popular ones:

  • Landscapes;
  • Animals;
  • Flowers and plants;
  • Fair;
  • Abstract patterns.

In addition to the design, the watch is decorated various items: coffee beans, plastic butterflies, shells or wooden handles (you get a watch in the form of a steering wheel), and eggshells are also used. Decoupage with newspapers is very popular, especially in foreign languages.

You can not only create from scratch, but also fantastically transform something that is already boring. This is especially true for old wooden clocks. They are often decorated with cats, plants and abstraction. And for mantel clocks, the ideas are inexhaustible - you can choose a design that imitates porcelain, marble or stone (so that the mantel clock matches the fireplace surround), and New Year's options even decorate with tinsel. Interestingly, for decoupage they often choose drawings that contain imitation of vintage factory dials and other similar themes.

You can also make watch blanks yourself. If we take the simplest option, it will be a circle with a hole for arrows in the middle. But the shape of ordinary round watches is being replaced by the popularity of square and non-symmetrical figures.

It is very important to start from the place where the clock will hang. A clock that depicts, for example, a kettle, would not be very appropriate in the bedroom.

Don't forget about the table clock. An alarm clock can also be decorated using a similar technique. The location will feature various vintage patterns and cityscapes (you can take the city of Paris as a basis). Particularly popular are watches in the shabby chic style, that is, aged, but still chic. You can buy an old watch and restore it, or you can artificially age something that you already have.

Blanks for decoupage watches

Almost all components can be purchased in stores that sell handicraft items.

Blanks (for watch production) include:

  • Clock mechanisms;
  • Arrows;
  • Numbers;
  • Stencil;
  • Bases made of glass, wood and plastic.

Since decoupage is very popular, you can choose anything to suit your taste. You can select components separately, or purchase a ready-made set. The shape of an unusual base is relevant, for example, in the form of animals (most often decorated with cats) or plants. The design, as well as the type of arrows, may depend on the base, because beautiful pink arrows are unlikely to suit a fiery design.

Pictures for decoupage of watches

Of course, the most popular designs for watches have a touch of romance.

Most often you can find:

  • Flowers;
  • Dolls;
  • Angels;
  • Lettering about love;
  • Hearts.

Still lifes will also be appropriate: calm tones will allow you to hang a clock in almost any room and with any interior design style.

No less popular are reproductions of Renaissance paintings, as well as famous engravings and tapestries. Such watches are suitable for pompous palace style, because they emphasize the taste of the owners of the home.

And in children's rooms you can put a clock with your favorite cartoon characters, animals or toys (for example, Teddy Bear). Fortunately, the choice of designs is limited only by the imagination of the owners.

Decoupage of clocks in Provence style

It is worth remembering that romantic Provence is part of the country style. It is very close to nature and simple rural life. Decoupage transfers this spirit to itself - associations immediately arise with lavender fields and an old French village.

Distinctive features of this style:

  • Pastel colors;
  • As if the color had been bleached by the sun;
  • Plant elements that emphasize the connection with nature.

In general, decoupage in the Provence style suggests the presence of milky shades in combination with pastel colors. Most often these are shades of blue, purple and pink.

Provence is perfectly combined with vintage elements, which will make the watch visually light and incredibly romantic. A set of kitchen items made in the same technique with the same pattern, for example, mugs, clocks and frying pans, looks especially impressive. Provence and vintage cuisine will make it much cozier and more comfortable.

But in the hallway, Provence style can be present not only in the clock. The following set would be appropriate: a clock, a calendar and a mirror. All this can be decorated with original frames with floral print. A pendulum clock decorated with lavender flowers is also very suitable. Such a “house” with a cuckoo will enliven and decorate the interior.

Retro decoupage: record clock

A special place is occupied by retro watches made from old vinyl records. They are a very good basis for a watch, and will certainly appeal to all lovers of retro and music.

In order to make such an accessory, you will need:

  • The record itself (you can take a non-working one);
  • Printouts with pictures;
  • Glue (PVA or specially for decoupage);
  • Acrylic paint, preferably several colors;
  • Acrylic varnish;
  • Scissors;
  • Various brushes;
  • Complete clock mechanism (that is, with hands);
  • Various small details or numbers.

The good thing about a vinyl record is that it has a hole in the middle, so you don't have to make another one. It is not at all necessary to completely decorate the record - such a watch, in which the mechanism is simply inserted, will look incredible. You can add an image of your favorite singer.

In general, the work process is no different. In the same way, the surface is carefully degreased and, if necessary, painted. Then, using glue, the pattern is attached as neatly and evenly as possible. Interestingly, you can add convex details, for example, craquelure or even lace. Everything must dry, and then it is varnished, and the procedure is repeated, in total, three times.

By the way, you can not only leave the watch as it is, but also cover it with a special watch glass - you can find it in the store. True, this applies mainly to standard watch forms.

Master class on decoupage of watches (video)

On vinyl watch Large rhinestones instead of numbers or elements that are related to music (for example, notes) will look great. You can look at such watches in large stores like Ikea. It is very important to note that vinyl records most often have a rather large size, so if you want to paint over the record completely, then you need to choose a large and clear design. Several small ones in a similar style and in approximately the same color scheme will also be suitable. Good luck and creative success!

Purpose master class - production of a product according to a creative plan.
Summary of the master class- mastering this technique.

Properties of napkins.
1. The napkin, if you layer it (remove all the layers and leave only the layer with the pattern), is very thin, and if you handle it carelessly, it can easily be torn. In particular, many of my students accidentally tore the napkin at the stage of applying glue, when, it would seem, everything was almost ready. But it is the thin napkin that is easiest to merge with the surface with just a couple of layers of varnish. Thicker paper takes longer to hide.
2. The napkin is not only very thin, but it also stretches and forms folds. It is because of this that we cannot glue a napkin directly onto the workpiece - we have to soak it in water, use a file, or come up with other methods for gluing napkins without folds.
3. The napkin takes on the background color. When glued, the napkin becomes almost transparent, and everything underneath is visible. If there is white primer or white paint underneath, the napkin becomes bright and the design on it is clear. If we glue it on a bright, saturated background, the napkin takes on this shade, the design is lost and becomes faded (that’s why you can’t glue the napkin on a dark background). But we take advantage of this property when implanting a napkin into wood stained with acrylic or stain, and then it shines through under the napkin motif. beautiful pattern wood, and the design appears to be scorched or drawn directly on the wood.

The main thing in decoupage is to maintain the full feeling of painting, not appliqué. And for this it is important to glue the napkin without folds.

So, let's get down to business!

We will need: watch blank (you can also use old records)
acrylic primer
acrylic paints, volumetric contour
brush, piece of sponge
glossy varnish
mechanism and arrows.

We cover our workpiece with soil and let it dry.

The well-dried workpiece needs to be sanded with fine sandpaper.

We tear out the element of the napkin we need.

Separate the top layer with the pattern. We lay it face down on a regular office file.

Generously sprinkle our napkin motif with water. To do this, you can use a container for watering flowers with a spray nozzle. We very carefully straighten the damp cloth directly onto the file. Try to straighten it so that there are no bubbles or wrinkles. We turn our decoupage sandwich over with the file facing up and apply it to the workpiece. Before you press the napkin onto the workpiece, make sure you are in the right place and you like the resulting composition. Now we quickly and carefully iron our motif (I ironed it with my hands, or with a roller). The main thing is that all edges of the motif are pressed properly.

Without waiting for the water to dry, apply decoupage glue over the entire motif with a wide, flat synthetic brush. The direction of brush movement here is the same as in regular decoupage: from the center to the edges. Be extremely careful: a wet napkin tears easily!

Let it dry well.

Individual elements can be highlighted with a volumetric outline and a little shine can be added with acrylic paints (if desired)

Cover the edges with black acrylic paint using a piece of sponge and let dry.

On top of the black color I applied acrylic paint (copper) using a brush.

So, since I didn’t know how to correctly distribute the numbers, I printed out a suitable dial on the printer. And with their help I made marks on the decorated surface. I glued beads in place of the numbers (as desired).

We cover our work with varnish in 3 layers with intermediate drying. We insert the mechanism and the watch is ready

Self-made products using the decoupage technique are increasingly included in the category of modern souvenirs. The ease of manufacture and bright decorative nature of these products have won the sympathy of children and adults.

The clock is playing important role in a person’s life, and they also serve the function of interior decoration. Therefore, we carefully approach the choice of this item.

The master class will demonstrate how to make antique decoupage and simply beautiful wall clocks for beginners.

List of materials:

  • wooden blank;
  • pencil;
  • decoupage cards, napkins;
  • egg packaging;
  • acrylic varnish;
  • structural paste;
  • acrylic paints;
  • contour paste;
  • PVA glue;
  • a small piece of lace;
  • mechanism with arrows;
  • sandpaper, spatula, brush and scissors.

Step by step execution:

  1. Sand the workpiece and cover it with several layers of special varnish. Glue the napkin as in the photo.

  2. The watch dial will be voluminous. The main part is made using papier-mâché technique.
    Tear an egg carton into small squares and soak them in water overnight. The next day, take it out, squeeze it out and pour it with PVA glue, and then mix. Take round shape and pour the resulting mass into it. Place it on the battery until it dries. Paint the papier-mâché a light color.

  3. Preliminarily try the dial on the watch, draw markings in a circle with a pencil. Apply the texture paste to the top of the board using light patting movements. The result will be a relief with roughness. Use part of a pencil with an eraser to carefully draw the joints between the bricks (photo).

  4. Mix the paints so that they match the color scheme of the napkin. Combine the palette with the structural paste and reapply to the bricks. Finish with this color right side crafts.
  5. Draw the curls on the clock with gray contour paste, and after drying, outline them with golden paint.
  6. Apply two coats of varnish to the board. Take breaks to dry. Glue the dial. Ask the man to drill a hole and fix the clock mechanism with hands.
  7. Decorate the side of the dial. Select the lace fabric and cut it around the entire circumference, then glue it. Tint the lace with bronze paint and tint it with a golden color.

The result is a wonderful wall clock. The decoupage technique will help any product fit into the interior. Simply change the colors and shades of paint to suit the interior of your house, apartment or cottage.

Decoupage is a technique for decorating various objects. It is based on applying a cut-out pattern or picture to an object and then covering it with varnish. At its core, decoupage is a type of appliqué that all people have been familiar with since childhood. You can use both special and regular ones with an original pattern or ornament. Most often, lovers of creative pastime make decoupage of watches. They can be decorated in a wide variety of styles and colors. The finished product takes on the appearance of an original painting.

Preparing for work

Nowadays, this technique is not particularly popular. This is due to the opportunity to purchase a ready-made product with a wide variety of pictures and patterns. If you don’t want to spend extra money, you can decorate the watch yourself. Decoupage is done quite simply and without a lot of time and money.

Preparation for work should begin with choosing a pattern. Here you can use either a simple picture or an image rendered in a certain style. Having decided on the design, you can start selecting necessary materials. Among them are the following:

  • multi-layer napkins with simple or complex patterns;
  • rice paper;
  • special pictures that can be easily found in any specialized store;
  • prepared personal photographs, which must be kept in water for a long time before use.

The work itself should begin with the purchase of a wooden base for the clock. It can be found in many stores specializing in handicrafts. Before use, the workpiece must be sanded until smooth. This will help attach the applique as evenly as possible. If the option with wood is not interesting to you, then you can take a plastic product as a basis. Before starting decoupage, it will need to be thoroughly wiped and degreased.

An ordinary plate can also be used as a blank for a watch. To do this, a hole is drilled in the middle for attaching the hands of future watches.

The picture or pattern for the watch must be carefully cut out using scissors. This part of the product will be attached to PVA or special glue for decoupage. This is usually the most difficult part of the job. The picture should lie flat and without a single unevenness or fold. In this regard, experienced craftsmen advise using rice paper, which is the easiest to stick to the workpiece.

Simple decoupage options

As a rule, everything is simple decoupage options are made on a ready-made basis for a clock with hands. The master just decides on the appearance, selects the dial and pastes a picture. You can use the following options:

  • finished image with numbers;
  • numbers made of wood or plastic;
  • separate dials;
  • writing with paint.

The most simple option is to use a ready-made picture with numbers. However, in this case, all the flaws that cannot be corrected will be more noticeable. If you use separate numbers or paint, they can cover up any unevenness. If you have steady hand and a talent for writing numbers, you can draw the markings by hand. If there is even the slightest doubt about the success of this operation, then it is better to choose another option. Any crooked line can ruin your work and turn beautiful thing into unusable.

Image selection

For your watch to turn into a unique designer piece, it needs good drawing. The choice of image is as important as the application of numbers and any inaccuracy can lead to an undesirable outcome. Most often, the following images are used to decoupage watches:

  • animals;
  • landscapes;
  • plants;
  • flowers;
  • abstractions.

The choice of theme should be made based on the characteristics and style of the room in which the clock will be located.

In addition to drawings, switch mechanisms are decorated with a wide variety of things and objects: shells, plastic crafts, coffee beans, eggshells, foreign newspapers.

Using the decoupage technique you can not only decorate a new watch, but also transform an old one. The number of decoration options is in the millions and is limited only by your imagination.

The base can also be made with your own hands in the form of a circle with a hole for arrows. In addition to the standard round shape, you can use square or asymmetrical ones. The latter are gaining particular popularity and often decorate the walls of offices of banks and companies.

All these manipulations can be carried out not only for wall clock, but also for desktops. You can easily set any alarm clock original look, decorating it with vintage patterns or designs.

Selection of components

Nowadays, stores that specialize in selling handicraft goods offer wide range components for homemade watches. They are usually inexpensive and available to everyone. Among the watch parts for decoupage are the following:

  • clock mechanisms;
  • numbers;
  • stencil;
  • arrows;
  • wooden, glass and plastic bases.

All components can be purchased as a ready-made set or individually. It is important to think through and imagine the view in advance finished product to select parts of the desired color and shape.

Original ideas

Recently, designs for watches containing romantic notes have become popular. These could be: flowers, angels, dolls, hearts. If you want to create universal option, which is suitable for any room, then you need to choose a still life or paintings by famous artists. For children's rooms, the best option would be a clock with images of cartoon characters, toys or animals.

Decoupage in Provence style

Provence - romantic style. It is as close as possible to the surrounding nature and rural life. Decoupage absorbs this spirit and helps evoke associations with French life at that time. Provence style can be distinguished thanks to several characteristic features:

  • the presence of a large number of plants that strengthen the connection with nature;
  • pastel colors;
  • pale and milky shades.

Provence goes well with any vintage decorative elements, which allows you to achieve romance and visual lightness.

Record clock

Whatever style you love, you will be impressed by the decoupage on the record. This retro version is very popular and already adorns the walls of many old music lovers. The plates themselves are an excellent base for a watch, as they have a round shape and a hole for the hands. To make a retro style accessory you will need:

It is not necessary to decorate the entire surface of the plate, but you can limit yourself to its individual segments. You can put a photo of your favorite band or singer on the record.

Retro style watch making process:

Decoupage wall clock will be great an original gift for any holiday. Depending on the celebration, you can make suitable themed products.

With the onset of winter you can start making New Year's clock . Decoupage of such a product looks festive and adds a joyful atmosphere. The manufacturing technology is the same as in other cases, with the exception of some details:

  1. The frame should be decorated using spruce or pine branches. When the holidays are over, they can be removed without hindrance.
  2. Instead of a standard image, you can use New Year's landscapes, pictures of Santa Claus, a snowman, and deer.
  3. Instead of dial divisions, it is better to use snowflakes.
